Dr. Insung Park of the International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (IIIS), University of Tsukuba, Receives Best Paper Award from Journal of Sleep Medicine
Dr. Insung Park, an assistant professor at the International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (IIIS), University of Tsukuba, has been honored with the “BEST PAPER AWARD” by the Journal of Sleep Medicine.
This esteemed award recognizes Dr. Park paper, “Assessment of Effects of Carbon Dioxide Exposure on Sleep Stability in Insomnia Using the Envelope Analysis,” which was published in the Journal of Sleep Medicine in April 2024. The paper was commended for its significant scientific contribution and academic insight at “The 2025 Annual Conference of the Korean Sleep Research Society,” held on July 5, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea.
This research evaluated the effects of carbon dioxide (CO₂) exposure on sleep stability in patients with insomnia. As CO₂ is known to exert a sedative effect on the central nervous system, this study analyzed the impact of CO₂ exposure at bedtime on sleep. The findings suggest that CO₂ exposure could help stabilize sleep and show a clear link between enhanced sleep maintenance and overall sleep stability. This results represents a promising new direction for approaches to insomnia treatment.
Dr. Park expressed his gratitude: “It is an honor to receive this award from the Journal of Sleep Medicine. This recognition is a result of active discussions within international collaborative research, and the indispensable support and cooperation from all my co-researchers. “
