Dr. Takeshi Sakurai has been awarded “Science and Technology award (Research category) by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology”

Dr. Takeshi Sakurai, a vice president of International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (WPI-IIIS) has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Science and Technology award by MEXT (Research category).
Dr. Sakurai received this prize for his research titled “Neural Circuits Inducing a Hibernation-like State and Their Applications”. His findings could enable the development of a method to induce a hibernation-like state, which would have potential applications in non-hibernating mammalian species including humans.
