Successful conclusion of 2nd Annual IIIS Symposium ～Solving the mystery of sleep～
The 2nd Annual IIIS Symposium ~Solving the mystery of sleep~, was held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Tsukuba International Congress Center.
Celebrating the end of its first year, the International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (IIIS), led by Masashi Yanagisawa, brought together leading scientists from around the world to create a forum for bridging together research fields that touch on sleep.
Following the opening remarks by Yoshiaki Ando, Director, Basic Research Promotion Division, Research Promotion Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Japan and Toshio Kuroki, WPI Program Director & Senior Advisor, Research Center for Science Systems, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), presentations were delivered by renowned figures across disciplines such as neuro- and pharmaceutical sciences. Along with chairing the event, Masashi Yanagisawa also gave a lecture during the symposium to showcase the ongoing research and exciting developments at IIIS. The two keynote lectures were presented by Matthew A. Wilson from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yang Dan from the University of California at Berkeley. Concluding the symposium, Yasuo Miake, Vice President of the University of Tsukuba, offered his parting words and wishes for success across the connected fields tied to integrative sleep medicine.
We would like to thank everyone for their participation in the 2nd Annual IIIS Symposium ~Solving the mystery of sleep~. Including researchers, students and university officials, we had a solid turnout of around 150 participants, making this second symposium a success.
